Sonos Playbase: A Speaker You Can Lean (Your TV) On

sonos playbase review

Recently, the well-known American electronics company has announced the Sonos Playbase, which is a new, sleek-looking wireless home sound system. As attractive as it may look, or as good as it may sound, the main feature of the Sonos Playbase, which makes it stand out from the crowd is the fact that it is designed to stand under your TV. By under your TV, we don’t just mean somewhere below your TV, but rather actually doubling as a base for your television, hence the name “Playbase”.

The Sonos Playbase is a powerful, yet incredibly thin speaker that is only 58mm thick and contains 10 drivers: six midrange drivers, three tweeters, and one woofer. In addition to these, there are also 10 digital amplifiers. One of the most incredible features of the Playbase is its amazingly sleek design, featuring a flat top and a seamless construction.

Using unique manufacturing processes and materials, such as a complex molding process and a custom-designed exterior which keeps vibrations to a minimum and can withstand the weight of the average television, Sonos has taken all the right steps in order to ensure that they are offering a premium product to customers. This does not come as a surprise, seeing as Sonos has been the king of the home wireless audio market for a long time now, and will most likely continue to be.

The new Sonos Playbase will make watching the latest Movies more fun

The Playbase isn’t necessarily a revolutionary or even creative concept. However, it will most likely sell well because it is a practical adaptation of their previous best-selling designs. Effectively being a reimagining of their Playbar device, this product is destined for televisions that are not wall-mounted and that do not weigh over 75 pounds, meaning that all televisions (excluding CRT TVs) will be supported.

According to Sonos, the Playbase is “equal parts TV speaker and music speaker”, meaning that you can use it both as a speaker for your movies and TV shows and as a wireless speaker for your mobile phone. The Playbase also has access to many music-streaming services. Later this year, every Sonos device, including the Playbase, will receive a software update which will allow users that own an Amazon Alexa-powered device to control the playback on their Sonos devices using their voice. In addition to this, the Playbase can be paired with other Sonos devices around your room in order to offer users a great surround sound experience.

Another great feature of the Sonos catalog, which includes Playbase, is the addition of three unique modes: Trueplay, which modifies sound playback according to the layout of the room the device is in, Night Mode, which tones down the bass volume in action scenes to make for a more subtle experience, and Dialogue Enhancement, which increases the clarity of vocals.

Despite the fact that it has just been announced, the Sonos Playbase will release on April 4, and pre-orders are available on the official Sonos website for the ones who currently own a Sonos device. The Playbase will cost $699 and will be available in both black and white.
