For example, Elio motors did not raise $42 million when crowdfunding. They actually raised $42M in “reservations” for shares which actually translated into $16.9M in actual shares sold.

However, as Kickstarter themselves had said in the past, only 0.03%of campaigns raise more than $1M , it is far better to use examples from other successful campaign to learn from. Focusing on the 0.03% will not teach anyone anything of value.
