Video games industry veterans launch Terra Virtua, the first-ever subscription-based virtual reality entertainment platform

Today marks the highly anticipated launch of Terra Virtua, a completely new category of virtual reality experience that brings together VR gaming, social experiences and spectator events in one entertainment platform.

Virtual Reality has yet to fully break into mainstream entertainment. One reason is that when the initial excitement of a new VR experience wanes, there is no reason to return. Terra Virtua provides a growing library of content and experiences to consume on-demand, paid for by a monthly subscription.

terra virtua logoUnderpinning Terra Virtua is a blockchain-based economy. In-game items, skins, experiences and more can be bought and sold within Terra Virtua, driven by the token ‘TERRA’. The utility token, trading under the ticker symbol TVT, represents a safe and secure way for users and content creators to buy and sell games, events and services, as well as own a dedicated zone within Terra Virtua. The blockchain basis for TVT ensures complete accuracy and transparency for earning and spending the token, as well as a global currency and pricing model inside the Terra Virtua platform. Pre-sales and an initial coin offering (ICO) for the TVT token will establish the currency and funding base for Terra Virtua.

Gary Bracey, CEO and co-founder of Terra Virtua said: “I have been involved in producing and developing video games for over 35 years and the industry has been talking about VR for 25 of those years. In all that time, nobody has cracked VR with a mainstream product. This is partly because the hardware has historically been difficult to set up, but mostly because the experience isn’t as good as regular 2D games. The gameplay is not as varied, it’s not as easy to play with your friends and it doesn’t offer enough to come back for more. We are going to change this with Terra Virtua, by offering an entirely new type of entertainment platform.”

“Games in VR are amazing. Social experiences in VR are amazing. With Terra Virtua we are fusing the very best of VR and AR entertainment with the TVT token economy, providing a fantastic opportunity for those looking to contribute to the evolution of the platform as well as those looking to market their digital products and services to a global audience in a global financial ecosystem,” added Peter Bergstrom, Chief Strategy Officer and co-founder of Terra Virtua.

Terra Virtua team is comprised of video games industry veterans and blockchain experts, all of whom are actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the business. The team includes:

  • Kish Hirani, CTO, former Head of Developer services for Sony PlayStation & PlayStation VR.
  • Doug Dyer, COO, a PC, console and mobile industry veteran having worked at Microsoft Game Studios and the founder of Warner Bros. and THQ’s mobile games divisions.
  • Sergiy Khandogin, Terra Virtua’s blockchain advisor that has led multiple crypto-based development efforts and is a recognised leader in this emerging yet explosive area.
  • Keith Ramsdale, Director, a 25+ years games industry veteran and former key executive at Electronic Arts, he is a former board member at Ukie – the trade body for the UK’s games and interactive entertainment industry.

Existing VR gaming and entertainment services are fragmented and based on users buying digital copies of one-off games or paying to access virtual environments devoid of content. Terra Virtua offers the benefit of a monthly subscription similar to Netflix, with an expanding library of playable content, as well as pay-per-view options for special events and attractions to create a unique, immersive entertainment portal.

For developers, Terra Virtua offers a platform where content and game creators distribute and monetise their creations in a dedicated environment. They can share it with others and immediately be paid in relation to the audience consumption of their material. The developer community is invited to participate now in the alpha testing of the Terra Virtua portal. This provides games and entertainment developers with an opportunity to optimise their forthcoming VR and AR content for the platform.

Terra Virtua is a social experience, creating new communities and allowing players to collaborate and form their own sub groups and teams around the individual games and experiences they participate in or watch. A mixed reality app connects to Terra Virtua even when users are on the move, ensuring they have access via their smartphones to chat, collaborate and plan their next adventures.
